Throughout the research process of thesis, with a chosen site of the suburban Kendall Lakes area of Miami, Florida, a few achieved vintage photos were found of its beginning and development.
A once blooming mall at the border of then Kendale Lakes, in the 1970’s. It was the home to a local movie theater, Specs record store, and many others, including the Buning florist shop shown above.
Built in 1935, the boys dormitory at Kendall Home for Children, also known as, Dade County’s Children’s Home. Shut down due to abuse, it has become part of Indian Hammocks Park.
The developing area of Kendall Lakes, during and beyond the 1970’s, with the past contemporary mindset of sprawl. The cleared marshes above making way for manmade lakes, shown above.
